By We Are Hoke
Hoke County has another reason to celebrate as the Hoke County High School volleyball team heads into the state playoffs, carrying the encouragement of its school and community. We Are Hoke proudly congratulates the players, Head Coach Lashonda Huey, and the entire coaching and support staff on this exciting accomplishment. Earning the opportunity to continue competing is a milestone worth recognizing, and we are pleased to help celebrate the young women representing the Bucks.
A volleyball season requires much more than the moments spectators see on match night. Behind every serve, pass, set, and attack are hours spent practicing fundamentals, learning rotations, and preparing to respond when an opponent applies pressure. Reaching the postseason provides an opportunity to celebrate that commitment while looking forward to the challenges and possibilities of the next match.
Leading the program is Head Coach Lashonda Huey, who is identified on Hoke County’s current varsity staff listing. We Are Hoke extends its congratulations to Coach Huey and thanks the assistant coaches and everyone who helps prepare and support the team. Coaching high school athletes involves teaching the game while helping young people understand responsibility, communication, and the importance of contributing to a shared goal. Those lessons remain valuable long after the final point of a season.
This celebration belongs to every athlete wearing a Hoke County uniform. The team’s roster includes seniors McKenzie Freeman, Julianna Macy, Taylor Hollingsworth, JoAnna Rone, Isabella Castaneda, and Jedaris Rivera Bonilla; juniors Hannah Guthrie, Katie Guthrie, Dejah Baldwin, Aeralyn Salada, Jalana Walton, and Kennedi Bowman; and sophomores Christina Everette, Selena Gregg, and Caitlyn Tatum. We Are Hoke proudly recognizes each of these players as part of the varsity volleyball program.
Every position matters in volleyball, where a successful play often depends on several teammates completing their assignments in quick succession. A controlled first pass creates an opportunity for the setter, a well-placed set gives an attacker options, and an organized defense helps keep the next rally alive. Players preparing to enter the match and teammates offering encouragement from the bench also contribute to the environment a team needs to compete.
For the seniors, this postseason opportunity adds another meaningful chapter to their high school experience. We Are Hoke celebrates their place in the program and wishes them memorable moments alongside their teammates. For the juniors and sophomores, the opportunity to experience postseason competition offers another setting in which to learn, grow, and build connections that can strengthen the program in the seasons ahead.
Recognition also belongs to the families, teachers, school administrators, athletic staff, and supporters who help make student athletics possible. Transportation, meals, academic encouragement, and attendance at matches all help sustain a school sports program. Each person who makes time to support these athletes contributes to a community in which young people can pursue their interests and feel that their efforts matter.
As Hoke County volleyball moves into postseason competition, We Are Hoke encourages residents, alumni, students, and local businesses to show their support. Share a congratulatory message, follow the school’s official announcements for match information, and fill the stands when possible. Positive encouragement gives our athletes a reminder that their hometown is proud to stand behind them.
To the players and coaches: congratulations on making it to the state playoffs. Enjoy the opportunity, trust your preparation, encourage one another, and take the court knowing that your community is cheering for you. We Are Hoke is proud to celebrate this milestone and the people who made it possible.
Congratulations, Hoke County volleyball—let’s go, Bucks!
