The Hoke County High School Bucks came within three points of a victory Friday, October 30, as the visiting Jack Britt Buccaneers earned a 33–30 overtime win in Raeford. The closely contested conference matchup brought Hoke County’s regular-season record to 5–5 overall and 3–2 in the Mid-South 7A/8A Conference.
For the Bucks, the result was a disappointing finish to a game that remained undecided through regulation, with overtime needed to separate the two teams. Hoke County’s 30 points kept the Bucks within reach, but Jack Britt ultimately secured the narrow victory and improved to 5–5 as well.
The Buccaneers received significant contributions from running back Tyler Shakir, who recorded 164 rushing yards and two touchdowns, according to the published MaxPreps recap. Quarterback Caiden Thompson added 214 passing yards and two touchdown passes, giving Jack Britt production through both its running and passing attacks. The result marked the Buccaneers’ third consecutive victory.
Although Friday’s outcome was difficult, Hoke County’s season included several victories worth celebrating. The Bucks defeated Overhills 57–44, earned a 20–9 road win against Pine Forest, and edged Richmond Senior 24–21 during an October stretch of three consecutive conference wins. Earlier victories against South View and Seventy-First also contributed to Hoke County’s five-win regular season.
Those results give Bucks supporters plenty to recognize as they reflect on the season, even after a close loss. High school football requires a commitment that extends well beyond Friday nights, with student-athletes balancing their schoolwork, practices, physical preparation, and responsibilities to their teammates.
For families and fans, supporting Hoke County football means standing behind those young people through the excitement of a victory and the disappointment of a narrow defeat. Encouragement matters especially after a game decided by such a small margin, when players must process the result while continuing to learn from the experience.
We Are Hoke thanks the Bucks’ players, coaches, and everyone who contributes to the football program for representing Hoke County throughout the regular season. We also encourage our community to continue supporting our student-athletes and recognizing the time and dedication they put into their school.
Friday’s scoreboard favored Jack Britt, but our support for the Bucks continues. Keep your heads up, Hoke County, and keep moving forward together.
