Hoke County 4-H Celebrates Madison Janise’s Showmanship Success
Hoke County has another young person to celebrate! Hoke County 4-H member Madison Janise earned third place in Senior Lamb Showmanship at the Moore/Montgomery 4-H Livestock Show and Showmanship Circuit, representing her community in an event that puts youth livestock skills in the spotlight.
Showmanship focuses on the exhibitor’s ability to handle and present an animal in the ring. For young people involved in livestock projects, that moment is an opportunity to put hands-on learning into practice. North Carolina 4-H supports youth livestock participants through educational opportunities that include showmanship training, animal science, and competition. youthlivestock.ces.ncsu.edu

The Moore/Montgomery event is part of the 2026 4-H Farm Credit Showmanship Circuit, a series of Cooperative Extension-sanctioned shows held across several North Carolina counties. Youth from any county may participate in the circuit’s shows, giving members like Madison a chance to take part in events beyond their home community. lee.ces.ncsu.edu Madison’s third-place finish gives Hoke County a reason to cheer and recognizes her work in the show ring.
Her achievement also offers a glimpse into the opportunities available through Hoke County 4-H. The local youth development program provides hands-on experiences in areas that include agriculture, science, healthy living, and civic engagement, with an emphasis on building practical skills and leadership. Its guiding values are represented by the four H’s: Head, Heart, Hands, and Health. N.C. Cooperative Extension
Hoke County families can explore a variety of local 4-H clubs with the help of community volunteers. Current offerings include a chicken club where youth learn about caring for and showing chickens, a homesteading club focused on topics such as growing food and raising animals, and clubs centered on cooking, shooting sports, and other interests. Club age ranges vary, and the county says its clubs are free to join after a child enrolls in 4-H. N.C. Cooperative Extension
