During National Principals Month, We Are Hoke proudly thanks Ashley Locklear, principal of J.W. McLauchlin Elementary School, for her service to education and her commitment to the students, staff, and families who make up the Mustang community.
Locklear brings extensive experience to her new role for the 2026–2027 school year. Before joining Hoke County Schools, she spent 15 years teaching in Scotland County. She later served as an academic coach and instructional facilitator at Hawk Eye Elementary, followed by three years as the school’s assistant principal. Among her professional accomplishments is completing the North Carolina Principals and Assistant Principals’ Association’s Future-Ready Leadership program in 2025, followed by her appointment as McLauchlin Elementary’s principal.
At McLauchlin Elementary, Locklear has outlined a vision centered on helping every child feel valued, supported, and challenged. Her priorities include a safe, welcoming learning environment, strong relationships, high expectations, and collaboration with educators and families. She emphasizes supporting students’ academic, social, and emotional growth while celebrating their progress.
National Principals Month offers an opportunity to appreciate the responsibility that comes with leading a school, from supporting classroom instruction and guiding staff to listening to families and keeping student needs at the center of decisions.
Principal Locklear, thank you for bringing your experience, leadership, and dedication to McLauchlin Elementary. We Are Hoke celebrates your service and your commitment to helping every Mustang reach their potential!
