Hoke County Bucks Look Ahead After Road Loss to Middle Creek
The Hoke County Bucks traveled to Apex on Friday night, September 25, for a non-league matchup against the Middle Creek Mustangs. The host Mustangs came away with a 40–15 victory, leaving the Bucks with a 2–3 record as they turn their attention to the start of Mid-South 7A/8A play.
The loss was a difficult result for Hoke County, but the Bucks have an opportunity to respond quickly. Their next game brings them back to Raeford on Friday, October 2, when they host the Overhills Jaguars in a conference matchup. It will be a chance for Hoke County to put the Middle Creek game behind them and begin this part of the season in front of a home crowd.
Overhills will arrive with a 3–2 record and momentum from a close non-league win of its own. The Jaguars defeated South View of Hope Mills 34–29 in their most recent game. That result sets up a meeting between two teams entering conference play from different outcomes, with both looking to make the most of an important Friday night.
For the Bucks, the coming week is about preparation and response. A road loss can be frustrating, especially when the final score does not reflect the result a team worked toward, but one game does not define the season. Hoke County has already earned two wins, and its players now have the opportunity to build on what has worked while addressing the areas that need improvement before Overhills comes to town.
The October 2 game also offers Bucks supporters their next chance to show up for the team. Home games bring classmates, families, alumni and neighbors together under the Friday night lights, and that support can mean a great deal as the players take the field for their conference opener.
The final score in Apex belongs to Middle Creek, but the next chapter of the Bucks’ season will be written at home. Hoke County will look to regroup, compete and give its fans plenty to cheer about when it faces Overhills on Friday.
