RAEFORD, N.C. — The Hoke County High School boys soccer team is moving on in the state playoffs after defeating the Chambers Cougars 2–1 on Monday, November 2, extending an impressive season and giving Bucks supporters another postseason victory to celebrate. The first-round win secured Hoke County’s place in the second round of the 2026 NCHSAA Class 8A boys soccer playoffs.
Entering the postseason as the No. 5 seed in the West bracket, Hoke County protected its home field against No. 12 Chambers in a match decided by a single goal. The Bucks will now travel to face No. 4 Ardrey Kell in Charlotte on Thursday, November 5, with a third-round berth on the line. Ardrey Kell received a first-round bye, making Hoke County its opening opponent in this year’s tournament.
Urijah Jones Earns First-Round Recognition
Sophomore striker Urijah Jones was named Hoke County’s Player of the Match following the victory over Chambers, earning individual recognition as the Bucks advanced. Jones, who wears No. 6, has been a prominent attacking presence, with the team’s MaxPreps page listing him as its shots leader with 48. His first-round honor adds another achievement to a season that continues into November.
The reported team statistics from the Chambers match credit Hoke County with two goals, one assist, and six shots. Those numbers provide a snapshot of the Bucks’ offensive production in a tightly contested playoff result, although the publicly accessible information reviewed did not identify the two goal scorers, the assist provider, or the timing and sequence of the goals.
Hoke County’s defensive result also deserves attention, as Chambers entered the playoffs after scoring four goals against Mallard Creek and another four against Independence in its final two regular-season matches. Against the Bucks, the Cougars finished with just one goal, and their season ended with the narrow defeat.
Eight Straight Wins Fuel the Playoff Push
The first-round victory marked Hoke County’s eighth consecutive win, continuing a strong finish to the regular season. Before defeating Chambers, the Bucks recorded a 4–0 win over Pine Forest, a 2–1 victory against Red Springs, a 2–0 shutout of Jack Britt, and a 1–0 win over St. Pauls. That stretch included both close results and shutouts, giving the team valuable preparation for postseason competition.
The win over St. Pauls on October 28 offered an example of the Bucks’ ability to make a decisive scoring opportunity count. Hoke County converted a penalty kick with 5:23 remaining in the first half and maintained the 1–0 advantage through the final whistle, completing its seventh straight victory before the playoff opener.
Hoke County now carries an 18–4–3 overall record into the second round after finishing first in the Mid-South 7A/8A standings with an 8–1–1 conference record. The conference finish and sustained winning streak give the Bucks plenty to celebrate while keeping their focus on the next challenge.
Next Stop: Ardrey Kell
Thursday’s matchup sends the Bucks on the road against a higher-seeded opponent, where another victory would extend their state championship pursuit. For Hoke County, the task will be to carry its recent consistency into a new setting while continuing to create scoring chances and limit opportunities at the other end. The second round is scheduled for November 5, with the third round set for November 9.
