The Hoke County High School Junior Varsity football team is giving Bucks fans something special to celebrate, putting together an undefeated 6–0 record as the 2026 season continues. With a 2–0 conference record as well, these young athletes are bringing excitement to Hoke County football and earning recognition for an impressive start.
Junior varsity football is an important part of a high school athletic program, providing opportunities for young players to develop their skills, gain game experience, and learn the responsibilities that come with representing their school. For the JV Bucks, this season also provides an opportunity to celebrate an accomplishment that belongs to the entire team.
Finding Different Ways to Win
The Bucks’ first six games have included convincing victories and close contests. Hoke County opened with a 50–20 win over South View, followed by victories over Seventy-First, 28–20, and Forest Hills, 30–6. The Bucks then edged Middle Creek, 28–27, defeated Overhills, 36–0, and kept their undefeated record intact with a 25–20 victory over Pine Forest on October 8.
Those results give supporters plenty to appreciate. The shutout against Overhills stands alongside one-point and five-point victories, showing that this undefeated run has included different kinds of challenges. Each result has added another win to a season that deserves the community’s attention.
Although varsity football often receives the biggest spotlight, the JV Bucks have a story of their own, and six consecutive victories make that story especially exciting.
Recognizing the Young Bucks
Among the players being highlighted are Josiah Pemberton, Octavis Sullivan, Corey McReynolds, Tyler Graham, and Kahil Epps. The published roster lists Pemberton as a freshman defensive back; Sullivan and Epps as sophomore wide receivers; and McReynolds and Graham as freshman wide receivers.
These players are part of a larger group whose shared accomplishment deserves recognition. Football depends on contributions across the roster, including the work of linemen, defensive players, running backs, receivers, quarterbacks, and special teams.

For young athletes, participating in a season like this can become a memorable part of their high school experience. The opportunity to compete alongside classmates, work toward a common goal, and represent Hoke County offers lessons that extend well beyond the final score.
Recognizing the Coaching Staff
Coaches Andre Pegues and Alfred Rivers help young athletes understand both individual responsibilities and the demands of team competition. Players must learn techniques, become familiar with assignments, and develop the ability to respond when a game does not unfold as expected.
An undefeated season offers an opportunity to recognize the coaches alongside the players. Teaching and development remain central to JV football, and every game gives athletes another chance to apply what they are learning.
Building Experience for the Future
While the 6–0 record is worth celebrating, junior varsity football also serves a longer-term purpose within the school’s athletic program. Game experience helps young athletes prepare for greater responsibilities while giving them opportunities to build confidence and improve their understanding of the sport.
The lessons can be just as meaningful away from the field. Learning to accept feedback, communicate with teammates, recover from mistakes, and remain accountable to others can benefit students in the classroom and throughout their lives.
For Hoke County supporters, this season provides a chance to appreciate the young Bucks’ accomplishments now while looking forward to their continued development.
